Palermo, 19/07/2024 – The master’s degrees in Artificial Intelligence Engineering and Cybersecurity awarded by the University of Enna Kore (UNIKORE) are the result of years of research and innovation, making the Sicilian university the first in Sicily to grant this academic title.

One of the first graduates from this program, Riccardo Russo, completed his internship at synbrAIn, developing it into a thesis titled:
“Generative AI for Question-Answering with Large Language Models: Retrieval Augmented Generation Techniques and Vulnerability Management.”

His work, supervised by Professor Salvatore Sorce (a former collaborator of our company) alongside co-supervisor and synbrAIn corporate tutor, Engineer Vito Gentile, focused on advanced techniques for the interaction between Large Language Models (LLMs) and large-scale knowledge bases, using a method known as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).

Dr. Russo also explored techniques to enhance the security of these systems, analyzing different solutions to mitigate issues such as LLM hallucinations, jailbreak prevention, and the generation of responses on irrelevant topics.

The evaluation of these techniques was central to his thesis, demonstrating promising results and highlighting the need for ongoing research to refine and develop these technologies further.

A Long-Standing Collaboration Driving Innovation

This achievement is the result of a strong and enduring collaboration between the University of Enna Kore and synbrAIn, which has built a successful model of technology transfer between academic research and industry—leading to tangible and innovative outcomes.

This is not the first time synbrAIn has collaborated with UNIKORE. The company has previously participated as an industrial partner in university research projects, and CEO Roberto Pagani is part of the advisory board for the master’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence Engineering and Cybersecurity at UNIKORE.

These collaborations foster constant interaction between academia and industry, allowing synbrAIn to integrate cutting-edge research into its products while also providing valuable feedback to help update academic curricula to meet the evolving needs of the business sector.

Shaping the Future of AI Research and Innovation

synbrAIn remains committed to fostering a collaborative environment that promotes research in Artificial Intelligence, continuously exploring new technological frontiers. Our national and international partnerships with academic institutions, such as UNIKORE, are essential to maintaining our position at the forefront of emerging technologies.

These partnerships not only allow us to transfer our knowledge, but also to develop proof of concepts and explore new research areas, reinforcing our commitment to technological progress and continuous innovation.
